please don't take this seriously, this one is a joke
“~Take cover!~”
The Elder’s baritone song boomed out across the field, sending his cohort scrambling to obey. Luckily, the picnic area he had scouted had been a good one — the craggy hills offering ample shelter for the smaller members of his warren. He cursed quickly beneath his breath as he reached for his blaster, Needle, spinning on his heel as he tried his best to locate the source of the movement he had spotted off in the trees. He knew he should have done a better job at securing the location, but the day had been so bright and beautiful…
//Beautiful days can be the most dangerous. Target. 32 degrees.//
Target, Kajj confirmed, sighting the flash of something metallic within the woods. Roughly human-sized, then. Had they followed from the colony? Did they want the Daughter?
“Reveal yourself, or I shoot!” Kajj barked, his eyes flashing as they locked onto his target, rapidly flicking through filters. There was a mass out in the woods, but the shape of it didn’t look like any human he had ever seen. And they weren’t answering.
He couldn’t risk it.
The hatchlings were too exposed.
“~W-wait!~” Keir called out, popping out of her hiding place, “~Elder don’t–~”
Target.
Sighted.
A breath outwards and pull–
“I wanna be part of your symphonyyyyyyyyyyy!”
Kajj chirruped in startled confusion, Needle hitting the ground as he fumbled it, a flash of rainbow colors lighting up the chasis. He stared down at it in flabbergasted disbelief. Whatever was out in the trees halted its approach, apparently just as confused as he was.
“Will you hold me close and not let go? SYMPHONYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY….!”
Slowly, Kajj turned to look at Keir, as there could be only one person whose hand might have done this. Who would have dared.
Keir giggled nervously, her face burning. “~Uh. You were. Supposed to… come to the range with me yesterday, remember…? So… uh…~”
“~We’ll talk about this later,~” Kajj hissed, his own face a dark shade of purple as he snatched up his fallen blaster and shoved it into its holster, still flashing and blaring some Earth pop song. Stars. Of all the indignities his life had heaped upon him, this had to be one of the worst. “~Gather up the hatchlings. We’re going home.~”
“~You… you got it, Clean Bandit,~” Keir sang, her tone heavy with amusement as she tried to hold back her laughter. Oh she was going to catch hell for this, she knew, but it was worth it just for that look on his face. She ducked behind to cover to spare herself another murderous look, still giggling as her Elder raced towards whatever intruder had threatened them.
